Tax-Free Benefits from IRA Rollover Donations End Dec. 31
If you are considering end-of-year philanthropic options, here are some tips that will help you, the donor, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford:
1. Donors are encouraged to pay outstanding campaign pledges before December 31, 2007 to take advantage of current year tax deductions. 3. This year, donations to the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford from IRA distributions can be made tax-free. Now through December 31, 2007, you and your spouse may be eligible maximize philanthropic giving while minimizing tax liabilities. Donors may be able to take advantage of a special IRA rollover provision which allows married couples 70 .½ years of age or older to contribute up to $100,000 each from their Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) and Roth IRA’s without having to count the distributions as taxable income. This valuable incentive helps the families served by Federation and benefits donors to the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, one of the public charities recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. The IRA Charitable Rollover became law on August 17, 2006, as part of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (Pub. Law 109-280) and is effective through December 31, 2007. Donors should call their tax/financial advisers to determine if IRA rollover charitable distributions are appropriate.
